Xeomin vs Botox - Which should I choose?

Atlas Health & Wellness carries two brands of neuromodulators, Xeomin and Botox. They both contain botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxin that works by blocking neuromuscular signals to relax targeted muscles at the injection site. Despite the fact that both of these brands contain the same active ingredient, they do have some differences in how they are used and formulated. They are both very effective injectable treatments in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Botox, manufactured by Allergan,  is the brand name of the first FDA-approved botulinum toxin for cosmetic use. Xeomin, manufactured by Merz Pharma, was next to market and FDA approved in 2010.  The main difference between the two is that Xeomin contains a “naked” form of botulinum toxin which removes the accessory proteins that other botulinum toxins have. This purified structure may help prevent antibody resistance that can cause the development of a tolerance to the treatment over time.  Because of this, it’s often referred to as the “Pure Tox”.

Both Xeomin and Botox last three to four months and are effective at treating fine lines and wrinkles along with headaches, migraines, TMJ, facial pain, and excessive sweating. Some find that Xeomin kicks in a little faster than Botox, but both can take up to 14 days to see results.
